Real Madrid defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at Wembley on Saturday to win the UEFA Champions League final. For much of the match, the Bundesliga team was superior, but Dani Carvajal gave Madrid the lead after 74 minutes. Nine minutes later, Vinicius Junior extended their lead when Ian Maatsen made a costly error. The giants of Liga have won the European Cup fifteen times in a row.
At Wembley, Real Madrid overcame Borussia Dortmund 2-0 to win the Champions League, setting a new record.
Despite intense pressure from their opponents, Carlo Ancelotti’s team managed to secure Los Blancos’ sixth European title in eleven years with to goals from Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior in the second half.
Dortmund carried the greater threat during the opening period of their first Champions League final appearance since losing to compatriots Bayern Munich here in 2013.
After going one-on-one with Thibaut Courtois in the 21st minute, Karim Adeyemi was unable to capitalize, and shortly after, Niklas Fullkrug struck the post.
With 16 minutes left, Carvajal skillfully headed Toni Kroos’ corner beyond the defenseless Gregor Kobel, causing the Bundesliga team to lament those wasted chances.
Three minutes later, Nico Schlotterbeck made a fantastic last-minute save to deny Jude Bellingham, but Los Blancos wrapped up the victory seven minutes remaining.
After Bellingham intercepted Ian Maatsen’s careless square pass, Vinicius was given the chance to win the trophy, which he did not turn down.
